I am trying to crack the WEP of the local firestations router..
The SSID is "default". This, I think, is a D-link router..but not sure
which one.
I figured that, if the local fireman could not be bothered to change
the SSID then, maybe he chose only to use some WEP examples that are
displayed in the router, wireless set-up page..
If anyone out there with a D-link could give me any ideas what he could
be using as a WEP code then I would be most grateful...thanks.

You're not likely to get much help here with criminal activities...

There is no default WEP setup. Someone had to set it up manually.
