DLink repeater work with Netgear router?

I want to add a repeater to extend the range of my WLAN. I am running a
Netgear MR814 router. I can get a DLink DWL-800AP range extender, except
that DLink's website makes it seem that this will likely only work with
other DLink products. Is this true? Will it work with my Netgear router?
If not, what other products are there that would do the job? Thanks for
your help!

I've been trying a DLind DWL-900AP+ with a Netgear MR314 wireless
router -- with no luck. I haven't given up yet. I'm going to try
upgrading the Netgear firmware.

As far as I know, no-one has managed to run a WAP11/Dlink etc as a
client off an MR314, it wouldn't surprise me if it won't be repeated
either.

On the other hand, I have repeated a Netgear ME102 access point with a
Linksys WAP11 running Dlink firmware.

Some things just need to be tried, regardless of what the manufacturer
says. (Half the time it's "buy our other products" marketing speak
anyway.)

David.

Both the 900AP+ and the 800AP+ have the Global Sun Tech. GL2422MP mini-PCI
card installed in them. If you are finding that the 900 is not working with
the MR314 you may find that the 800 probably won't work either. I could be
wrong on this. My guess is that it may just be a firmware issue that is
preventing them from talking (most likely with WEP enabled)? My guess is
that you have WEP enabled and/or SSID broadcast turned off? I'm betting
that if you turn off the encryption in both units and run open network they
will work fine. Give it a try and let us know?

What do you mean by " run open network"?

I can't see how to turn on SSID broadcast on the MR314 router.

The 800+ says GL2422AP-6T3-B10 on the motherboard, the radio is in a socket
much like a piece of SODIMM ram...

The 900+ says GL2422AP-0T4 on the motherboard, the radio is a bare 650+ with
no labels, that has an extended pc board for the antenna connections...

Yes, that is the mini-PCI card that I was talking about. It should have
GL2422MP stamped on it.

What revision is your 900? You can find this on the case next to your
serial number. Thanks again.
