A buddy of mine ordered cable modem for his house. He has 2 computers.

They came out hooked up cable modem to his house. Cable was running fine.

He went to Best Buy and bought a DLink Wireless router. He took it home,
hooked up the router and got online. He went to run the Dlink install wizard
disk and he got to the point to where it asks him to put in the Mac address
and it gives you the option to auto find the address and he selected that
option and ever since he has not been able to connect to the internet
period.

He even unhooked the router and ran directly from the modem to the Ethernet
card and still his browser just sets there and times out. Will not connect.

He checked to make sure that all of his TCP/IP settings are correct and they
are.

Any ideas? Thank you for any help you can help us with in advance.

thank you,

Laffctx

further info............His modem is sync up and shows all kinds of activity
coming through it. The Dlink router WAN light blinks with the activity and
the line light that goes to his puter blinks showing activity too but
nothing.

thanks,

Cable modems are set to only talk to one mac which they
cache -- unplug and plug it it, then try the pc directly
and it will work. Use a pin to push the reset button on
the dlink for 10 seconds to restore factory defaults.
Insert back into the loop (rebooting the cable modem to
talk to the dlink now) and go through the wizard -- don't
do the auto-find -- it's not necessary.
