Dlink DWL-650+ PCMCIA adapter cannot connect to SMC router

I recently got a DLink DWL -650 + but for the life of me I cannot
make it connect to my SMC wireless router.

I checked the SSID and Password key to make sure they are the same
on both. The Dlink utility screen shows that there IS a 89 % signal
strength although the Link Quality is not very good. But it is
connected and Associated with the SMC router.

But I cannot access the Intenet and cannot see the other computers
on the Network. (One is wired XP and the other wireless 98se)

Help !!

P.S. when I run winipcfg on the windows 98 machine that the wieless
card is on I get a DHCP unavailable error. But I DID enable DHCP in
the smc router !!
