Dlink DSL-504 firmware question

Hi all,

I have a Dlink DSL-504 ADSL router, sticker underneath says REV B1. The
current firmware version is R2.21.002.06.b2t10uk and I keep experiencing
lockups on the box, where no ADSL traffic flows through and the only
solution is to hard-reset the box.
According to the D-link FTP site, the current REV B firmware is
504Rgii22100206b14uk so I downloaded it, went to the HTTP interface ->
upgrade firmware and followed the instructions. However, after selecting the
correct firmware image and agreeing to the "this may take a while" box, I
get an "Upload Fail" message.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with REV B units?

TIA,
df

When we had trouble with our first 504 Dlink support got us to
do the firmware upgrade and it locked up the guy in Denmark said
that's it can't do anymore with that take it back and get a refund
where you bought it from . Now this new one is giving the same
problems has someone stated in reply to my first posting regarding
dlink it looks like D-Link products are shit .

Yes, I've had exactly the same, twice. (First unit went back due to an
unrelated hardware problem.) I eventually managed to update the firmware
with help from the "D-Link DSL Router Info Dump":
http://shadow.sentry.org/~trev/dsl50x.html

The method I used was

1) Enable SNMP (http://shadow.sentry.org/~trev/adsl/snmp.html)

2) Update to R2.21.002.06B9UK
(http://shadow.sentry.org/~trev/adsl/..._v221B9UK.zip). This
contains its own Firmware Update Utility.

3) Update to the latest version using the option on the http interface
which now works.

The second time I tried just 1 and 3 but that didn't work. Possibly
just 2 and 3 will.

Many thanks to Trevor Roydhouse for his excellent site.

Many thanks for your help - I have just followed steps 2 & 3 (couldn't find
the serial cable, so skipped step 1!) and everything seems to have worked -
running the latest firmware as we speak. Fingers crossed the freezes don't
reoccur ...

once again, thanks

At the risk of saying something I've said before: If you still have lock-ups
try disabling DNS forwarding and point your PC's directly at your ISPs DNS
servers, this made a world of difference for me and have had a router uptime
of over 200 days since....
