Dlink 900 AP+ Client vs. Bridge mode?

The only high speed IP access here is via a WISP (wireless ISP) using
802.11b.

I want to connect my home LAN using a small router connected thru the
900ap+ to the WISP site.

Because the WISP does NOT use Dlink, and because DLINK's literature
specifies bridge mode ONLY with other Dlinks, I don't know if "bridge"
mode will work. Presumably "client" mode will, but is my router then
a "client", or just useless in this mode. Would "client" mode
support a single PC connected to the LAN port on the AP+ - that is,
is that what is meant by "client" mode?

Thanks / mark

No a bridge connects wired devices that are connected to an AP
wirelessly to another AP. Your situation is NOT a bridge because you
want to connect wirelessly.

That is what client mode means (I think!) But if I were you, I
would not presume that the 900+ can operate in client mode with the
providers AP. I have a 900AP (not '+') that will not operate as a
client with another DLink 614+ AP. According to DLink tech support
it will only client with another DWL-900AP though their web pages
indicate that it will only client with a 900+ or 1000+.

In bridge mode, both units has to be in that mode, and they
communicate only
With each other, and is used to connect two network together.

In client mode, it connects to a unit in access point mode possibly
together with several other clients.

When using the 900+ in client mode some says (and the doc's I think)
that there must be only one MAC address on the wired side. And that
mean ONE PC or the WAN port of a router. However I have done some
testing with my 900+ in client mode connected to a switch and I was
able to use two PC' through the 900+ in client mode. A friend did the
same, but with negative result. I use an old 2.3 FW he had 2.5 FW so
that may be the reason.

However a 4 port SOHO router costs only slightly more than a 5 port
switch,
So go for a router if you want to have several PC's connected.

The Dlink 900+ has same internals as Linksys WAP 11 v 2, so do a
Google
after postings from David Taylor, he has done a lot of funny thing
including
successful clement mode against what the doc's says.
My advice is to try with different FW versions, as this was what made
my
Internet link to work (Clinet: 900 AP+ FW 2.3 AP: SMC 2655 FW 1.4i 4).
Good luck
kg

Thank you - that's the direction I was heading. Have an older SMC
7004ABR - I can communicate with the admin pages of the 900AP+ from
any PC on the LAN side of the SMC, so at least that part is working.

Just gotta wait for both daylight and no rain to fool around with
antenna pointing etc.

Thanks to all who took the time to respond! /mark
