Thats silly (for DLink to say ... sigh ... why am I not shocked ... tsk
... tsk ...)
..
I have an 800AP+ and have used is successfully to repeat the signal of a
614+ and a 900AP+ (and my neighbor's Linksys that has a cool 2.3meg
cable modem attached to it ... with no MAC filters or WEP configured).
NO PROBLEM !!
It is currently disconnected because I am bypassing my router at this
time ... using just a hub behind my DSL modem and letting everyone pull
their own IP from the ISP (I am doing some things right now where I need
to be able to see everyone's traffic at one adapter ...etc).
Anyhow ... note the following:
To be a repeater ... (after setup) the IP address is academic ... so is
the ethernet cable. Just set that sucker anywhere you like and plug it
in to the AC outlet.
You need to program (in the 800AP+) the MAC address of the AP/Router you
want to repeat. That is all you need as the unit will automatically
operate on the same channel etc.
The MAC you want to tell the 800AP+ to use is the MAC that is displayed
when you do a "site survey" ... (such as with a DLink client card or
Stumbler etc). You "DON"T" want to use the Ethernet side MAC of the unit
you are trying to repeat because that won't work.
If you use a 900AP+ to repeat you can do a site survey (the 800AP+ does
not do site survey as it does not have a client mode) ... and cut and
paste the MAC of the unit you are looking for right into the repeater
program box ... and you are all set !!
If you have a MAC filter turned on ... on the unit you are trying to
repeat make sure you put the MAC address of the 800AP+ into the allowed
list, (in this case use the MAC displayed on the base of the 800AP+).
Thats all I can think of at this time but you can't do "anything" if you
can't talk to the unit. You said you "can't" get in but how could that
be if you have changed the IP to 192.168.1.4 ??
Which .. by the way .. if using the default mask of 255.255.255.0 this
puts you on a different network. To get at a host operating on a network
of 192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0 you would have to use a PC configured
with a 192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0 IP address. You "wouldn't" be getting
to it with any PC with an IP of 192.168.0.X .... cause things don't work
that way.
Hopefully, something here will be of some help ... I apologize in
advance for covering obvious or other things that you probably already
know. The units do indeed work though .. and they work very well (as
repeaters).
IMHO as always ...
