dlink 650 + and WindowsME incompatibility on Dell Inspiron8000

I tried to install, per the instructions, a wireless 650+ on my
Inspiron 8000, which runs Windows/ME. After the install, the machine
gives me all sorts of error messages that explorer is having problems,
and the machine loses the active desktop. The fix is to go back to a
valid restore point with SYSTEM RESTORE, but then I cannot use the
wireless lan card.

If I hook the machine up to my lan using the Zircom card, I have no
trouble after the restore.

Anyone had this problem, and does anyone have a fix?

I have not had this problem with my 650+ and Win/ME on my laptop, a Compaq 1620.
