DLink 2100AP Bridge - Ping Times - Static Turbo Mode

We have a neighborhood hotspot with about 10 points, we tried different
DLink modes. But found that Static Turbo mode worked the best over
distance.

The problem is that after a couple hours ping times between bridges
increase from 1ms to over 1,000 ms

But the performance on speed test sites are showing almost full T1
speeds of 1.3mb/sec at the furthest points...while using the non-turbo
modes we get only 200kb/sec at the furthest points.

So the static turbo mode seems to be much better...just those ping
times and often with timeouts make me worried.

My questions are
Is it something that needs to be worried about as long as everything
else works fine?
Is there an explanation?
I have seen others post similar problems with no resolution...anyone
find a resolution?

F/W version is 2.00

Thanks, Ed,
