Dlinik 614+ access to LAN under Windows 2K

I have a Dlink 614+ and DI-650 PCMCIA card setup. I can get it to
surf the internet (cable modem) over the wireless link, but I cannot
get to LAN recources (driver and printer).

My notebook is from work and must remain configured to access the work
LAN. If I change it, it requires a call the tech support to change it
back. (Windows 2000 locks you out of changing it back)

Is there a way to access LAN recources through the wireless part
without changing the domain or network information on the Windows 2K
laptop?

No, that would require you to change the Win 2k O/S setup to access a
network LAN Workgroup on you LAN instead of a Domain LAN. And if you
change the setup for any reason, then you will need someone with Domain
Admin Rights to put the machine back on the company's Domain LAN.

The first responder is correct.

Note also that (most likely) the reason is that Win-2000 has you locked out
is simply because your IT department configured Win-2000 on the laptop that
way.
(Hey, they own it, so they can lock things down as they see fit.)

My wife once had a similar company-provided laptop with those same
restrictions
and it became a real pain-in-the-ass every time we wanted to add software to
it or whatever, and we were LOCKED OUT.

Ultimately, what we did was to spend our own money and bought a laptop
(for her use doing work from home). It turned out that the IT-department
was
totally fine about giving us some of their 'corporately' licensed software
to put onto our laptop, once they knew/understood that we wanted to
use it to work from home (tele-commute).

So, you might want to inquire whether that approach would be a workaround
that you could consider (to relieve these cumbersome 'lockout' rules).

Hope this helps...

Dave
