Distance between filter and device

What are the limits on cable length between an ADSL filter and a device? I'm
considering replacing my master socket with one of the modified faceplates
from Clarity, wiring both filtered and unfiltered signals down the Cat5
extension then breaking them out to separate sockets. That will mean a
distance of about 20 feet between the filter in the master socket and the
phone in my office. Is this likely to work? Can I run two phones off the
one filter?

Simon

should be OK, as long as there isn't too much crosstalk in the cable
between pairs.

yes, once filtered its a standard phone connection.

Hi,
yes, this should work fine. I was on the original engineer install,
which uses these faceplates. You end up with two sockets, one for telephone
and the other for broadband, in the same faceplate. All telephones must be
linked to the telephone socket, and no further filters are required, so you
will not need additional fiters for each phone. The recommended max. length
for the ADSL cable from the faceplate is less than 30m, so you should be OK
on that score too.

Personally, I have about 10m of cable to my router, and 3 telephones (one
with caller ID) running from the telephone side of the filter. One thing to
be aware of is that the ADSL side of the connection is via an American style
RJ11 socket, so make sure your modem can connect to that (most can).

The line to the ADSL device isn't filtered.

The filter is placed between the incomming phone line and the telephones.
Most filters have a socket for plugging in the ADSL device, but this is
just a straight through connection.

Yes, the filter is a barrier to stops sound that the ADSL device uses to
communicate being interfered by the telehone, any point past the filter is
protected by the filter.

I'm aware of that, by 'device' I meant phone, fax, analogue modem etc.

I think you have that backwards, it is there to prevent the ADSL signals
getting into the phone (which is not necessarily able to reject the higher
frequencies involved) and to terminate the line so as to prevent
reflections distorting the ADSL modem's signal constellation.
