Hello

When I log onto our mail/app server (windows server 2003 se) and go to my
computer, the mapped drives (from as logon script) show as disconnected. We
are having other issues as well where files (on the server) occasionally
cannot be located?

Why do the mapped drives show as disconnected (even from the server console)
and where to I begin to troublesheet this type of issue

Thanks

check the auto-disconnection or hardware settings.

Check the auto-disconnection or hardware. this link may help,

Connectivity issues XP disconnection issue You cannot connect to shared resources on other computers in the network ... For consultants, refer to XP disconnection issue page. ...

Hi,

I have experienced similar problems in the past. First thing to check is
obvious but it's one that is all to often overlooked - physical connection,
check the cables then test connection by using ping (make sure icmp is not
blocked on your network)

If your client pcs are XPSP2 and your using the Windows Firewall make sure
that file and printer sharing is ticked in the 'exceptions' tab.

If your using DHCP check that the dhcp server is issuing IP adresses
correctly. Check that the client pc has received an address correctly.

Check any third party firewall applications (including AV packages) which
could possibly block ports. E.G I use Mcafee Av and a recent update blocked
all communication on port 25.

Finally check your switch/router make sure ports are not blocked or filtered.

Nearly forgot check the permissions and rights assignments on the
shares/files themselves!

Hope this helps

Hi thanks for the reply.

I'll try some of that, but the disconnected shares are showing on the
console of the W2k3 server. The shares are from disks in that machine, i.e.
not being accessed across the network

Thanks
