Disappointed with Tiscali broadband

Hi

Just thought i'd mention my dissatisfaction with tiscali broadband.
I signed up for a 12 month broadband contract - £15.99 a month about 8
months ago.
I knew this tied me into a contract, however am now about to move
house where there isn't a bt phoneline installed (cable is installed
instead). I was hoping that this was going to release me from the
contract. Apparently it doesn't, so fair enough.

What annoys me though is that I upgraded to their £17.99 account about
3 months ago. The logical thing would be to now downgrade back to the
£15.99 package and pay the rest of my alloted time - equates to about
£75. But I find out that once you upgrade from a £15.99 service you
cannot downgrade back. I wasn't told about this and am quite annoyed
because now I have to pay in excess of £90.

Just thought i'd share that with you all.

At least now you`ll know for future not to do it again, and can take
solace from all the bad press you can give them to anyone and everyone
you ever meet where the subject of the internet crops up :-}

Well I would see Trading Standards or Citizens Advice for ant help they can
give.
You could of course stop the DD payments, after you write to them cancelling
the contract, Tiscali won't know where you are after your move anyway.

Thing is that Tiscali are widely renowned as poor providers anyway. Many people see
them as "grab your money" shysters. I suggest that you post your problems as widely
as possible and alert everyone you know to avoid them.

More trouble than it's worth. Legally, you owe them money, therefore
if you don't pay up, sooner or later, it will appear on your credit
file, which will affect you getting credit in the future.

I assume there is no BT wire going into your new place? Might be
cheaper to have a BT line installed, and ask Tiscali transfer the
account....

I copied this section from the Tiscali Broadband T&C page:

13.5 You may also terminate this Agreement at any time on giving at
least 1 month's notice if you move to a new address to which it is not
possible to provide the Broadband Services on production of proof of
your changed address.

Doesn't this cover your particular situation?

Unfortunately that doesn't cover my situation, as you could get a BT
line installed in my new place although one isn't there at the time
being.

You can install a BT phoneline pretty much anywhere so its very
difficult to get out of that one sadly.
