Dear all,

I am using Windows 2003 Standard edition as my domain controller. My clients
are all with Windows xp SP2 of about 40 PCs.

I want to know about few of the followings.

My clients were all connected with the above said domain with proper
configuration. I mean to say that in all our client pc i changed the name of
the domain and joined it with the domain.

My question is If i am not giving the ip address of the domain controller in
all the client PC's Preferred DNS server, what will happen?

Even without giving the IP address of the domain controller in the DNS of all
client PCs in what way it will effect in networking??

Detailed explanation is appreciated.

thanks in advance
chandra

Active Directory is integrated with your local DNS. Domain members which
need to access domain resources do so by looking in DNS, which has the SRV
records. If your clients look in some other DNS server they will not find
the resources they need.

If your clients need to resolve other URLs as well as local domain
resources, set your clients to use the local DNS only, then modify your
local DNS to forward to a public DNS service.
