In my office pc i have disabled bash beep in my RedHat 9 pc by
setting:

set bell-style visible

in the ~/.bashrc file. But when connection to other RedHat AS using
telnet, i get the irritating beep sound, inspite of setting the above
configuration in the RedHat AS system too... if any one could help me
/dev/null this beep, it would be of great help.

Thanks in advance,

Open your machine, locate the speaker, grab cables, pull. No more
beeps whatsoever.

Use these commands before you start telnet (by the way, you should use
ssh!)
If you use X, xset -b
If you use the console, setterm -bfreq 0

An after-hours "upgrade" I used to perform on my CowOrkers PC's
in nearby cubicles at my PPOE.
