Disabled wireless card and its consequences

Hi all specialists,
Please allow me to come back on this subject (see recent posting). I
have just found back my original notes containing the very first "trouble"
message that I jotted down after my mishap in disabling a wireless card in
my daughter's laptop. It says "Network adaptor is incorrectly configured. It
is not set to dynamically receive IP and DNS addresses". As I am running
ducth language software this is a free translation into english. I hope this
may be some kind of lead towards a solution of the problem. Your advices
will be most welcome.

I am not familiar with your specific card. Some cards might disable the
Radio when you disable the card. Once the Radio is disabled, it is not
useable, and needs to be manually enable.

Look at the Card Configuration in the LAN connections,

As an example, in my card when I click on the Configure Button, I get an
Advance tab that let me control the Radio, and other variables.

According to the manual for your adapter (I read the English one, but

there is, indeed, a mechanism to turn the radio on/off. There should be
a wireless on/off button at the bottom of the SMC configuration utility
screen. See, for example, page 11 of the English-language manual.

In addition, although the screenshot of the "notification area" that is
shown on page 9 of the English-language manual shows icons for both the
SMC configuration utility and the native WinXP "Wireless Zero
Configuration" utility, the conventional wisdom in this newsgroup is
that you should only run one configuration utility at a time. See

If you choose to run the SMC utility, and set WZC to "stopped" and
"disabled", make sure you "disable" the power save option in addition to
turning the wireless radio on.

I didn't see in the manual where you configure the connection "to
dynamically receive IP and DNS addresses." Perhaps it's on the
"Advanced" tab of the "Configuration" screen, a description of which is
omitted from the manual.

In WinXP, you get to that setting from Control Panel > Network
Connections, right-click on the icon for the wireless adapter and select
"Properties" (see

then, on the "General" tab, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and
click the "Properties" button, to get this:

and click the appropriate radio buttons.

These screens might not be available if you have stopped the WZC
service. Note, too, that although Jack (ezlan) does recommend stopping
the WZC service if you are using the mfr's utility, you might just try
UNchecking the box on the "Wireless Networks" tab of the wireless
connection properties screen
