I'm suffering with a problem that has been listed before.
I need to connect an old W95 machine to a Server 2003. I
installed IE5 and the DSClient from the 2000 Server disk
but still no joy. As I was looking through different
places, I noticed someone say that the newest DSClient for
W95/98 is on the Server 2003 disk. I can't locate it on
the disk. Is it under a different name? Can someone tell
me where to find it or let me know where I can download
it? I know the easy solution is to upgrade the OS but this
particular PC is incorporated in a Laser Metal Cutting
machine and updating would render the machine inoperable.
A new machine is ordered but I need to get this one
working now until the replacement comes in about a month.

I've never been able to get a definitive answer to this question. So, my
best guess is:

1. It is not on the Windows Server 2003 CD.

2. This link may give you a newer version than the one on the Windows 2000
CD:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;288358

Reportedly the Win98 link will work on Win95.

3. As far as I know the so called 2003 version is only available as a
hotfix:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;323466

Again - reportedly this works on Win95 as well.

4. You may be able to work around this issue by disabling SMB signing:

Thanks Doug,

I saw all the stuff about Win98 but wasn't sure if it
would work on 95 but I will give it a try. I was holding
off disabling of SMB signing on the server but at this
stage of the game, well, any port in a storm if you know
what I mean. I can always reenable it once the new machine
comes in.

Thanks again!

Well, until disabling SMB signing, nothing would get W95
to sign on to the 2003 server. Additionally, I could only
get TCP to connect. IPX, NetBeui, as well as a very tight
string between the 2 PCs will not connect either.
