direct cable connection setup

Setting up direct link via parallel port between laptop
and desktop. Have allowed file and print sharing and am
continuing to the point of selecting guest accessible
files on host computer. I only get the dialog box asking
to "select files then hit NEXT" -- there is no file
selection screen, no possible way to do so (or so it
seems). At this point it's CANCEL or...NEXT - which
informs me I haven't set up files for sharing (ya think).
I've shut down every unnecessary process prior to setup
and am stumped. Oh - this follows the fresh installation
of the DCC component and subsequent reboots. Any ideas?
