Digital Phones and home network

I am about to set up my new Wifi connection at home. I also have several
Digital handsets working off one base. I believe these work at 2.4Ghz as
will my new network, will they interfere with each other?

I was planning to put both the router and the base station for the phone on
a shelf close to each other, again will this cause problems?

Cheers

Steve

Maybe.

Maybe.
You will probably be able to find a channel on which the router will not
be interfered with by the phone.
Consider where you can alternatively put the router, a bit away from
the phone, if it is needed.

802.11b and 802.11g operate on the 2.4ghz radio band; 802.11a operates at the
5ghz band. So yes, the phone could interfere with your wireless connection.
However your router software should allow you to change channels to avoid
interference. You will have to experiment to see which channel works best. Or
if you can get your hands on a 900mhz cordless phone you won't have to worry
about interfering with your phone.

My DECT base station is placed right next to my wireless router without
any interference as far as I can tell.

I think you will find that UK DECT phones operate at 1.9 GHz so there
shouldn't be a problem.

They can interfere sporadically or constantly or (least likely) not at all.

Me, I'd separate the phone base and router by the greatest distance
possible. However, the only way to find out for sure is to try it and see.
There are so many variables (reflections, things that block the RF path,
which particular frequencies are in use by the phone or WiFi, etc.), that
it's virtually impossible to predict.

I have a Uniden 2.4 GHz phone and it works fine with my WiFi. The
trick of making them work is to keep them on different frequencies. I
had to move my WRT54G to channel 1 to eliminate the interference.
