Difficulties with Linksys BEFW11S4

I've managed to get my Linksys router working fine when connecting to
my laptop's ethernet ports, but I'm having trouble with the wireless
connection. My PC shows that it's connected wirelessly and it's
sending packets, but it's not receiving them. Same situation with two
different laptops..they work fine when connected via wire...and appear
to connect wirelessly, but not fully working. I've gone over the
network settinga a hundred times, but I'm obviously missing something
important.

I have been able to connect to other wireless networks recently so I'm
stumped.

this may be a dumb suggestion, but double-check to make sure your PC isn't
running a software firewall or something of the sort.

I would find someone with a wireless card and have them try to connect to
elminate that it's not a router problem.

Are you using Adhoc or Infrastructure mode?

I'm using infrastructure mode. Also, I do have Zone Alarm loaded, but
it lets me connect fine via ethernet so it 'should' let me connect via
wireless as well, no? I've also tried disabling Zone Alarm but that
has not helped

I had an old D-link PCMCIA card that did exactly the same thing with my
BEFW11W4. I even called support and they couldn't figure it out. I tried
everything! When I switched to another card (US Robotics - that I had on
another laptop) that card worked great. I ultimately bought a new LInksys
PCMCIA card and it also worked immediately.

Thanks for the suggestions. It gave me an idea. I'm going to boot up
into a second partition/OS on my system and try to set up from scrath
over there. I know there is no problem with the my wireless card
because it used to work with the Linksys router just fine when I had
it set up 6 months ago. I've obviously messed up the settings
somewhere.

This happened to me just yesterday. After several hours of changing
settings, I figured it out. Apparently my BEFW11S4 can no longer
handle WEP. If I turn off encryption, everything works. If I turn on
either 64 or 128, the system will no longer work.

I thought maybe the firmware got screwed up, so I reloaded it. That
didn't fix the problem. I don't understand this as I assumed the WEP
functionality would be in the firmware.

I am nervous about running with WEP disabled, but wanted to give it a
day or two to see if I could find anything else that might fix it
before I go out and buy a new router.
