How to differentiate ADSL from ADSLMax?

Hi,

In the last few days my FIL has upgraded his fixed 2Mb ADSL connection,
which he's had for the last few years, to an ADSLMax connection with the
same ISP (plusnet). However, the new router only ever seems to be
connected at 288/2272 kB (down/up). This makes me think that his line
setting haven't been changed.

He's not far from the exchange (~650m) and the line is allegedly capable
of ~6Mbps. The SN margin is good at 27dB.

Is there a way to find out from my end whether he's on a ADSLmax or ADSL
line, before we contact the ISP to fix it.
Any pointers appreciated.
