Hello gang,

Nice to be here on a Friday night in Florida.(It's gettin'
HOT)

I use/have a very differnt setup as most and fortunately
it is working fine. I want to make a change but not too
sure how to do it.
I am doing this:

1. Homebased server with w2k3 no other PC's connected.
Just me and the internet.

2. 2 PC's in another home 5 miles away currently using
VPN and remote terminal access for our communication.

The first machine off of the wall is a WinXP Pro with a
cable modem and 2 nic cards. (Upstream is 512 and Down 2.0
at the server2003 location)
The second machine is a XP home OS and is networked
through the second nic card and a crossover cable directly
out of the XP Pro machine and into the XP home machine.
Internet connection shareng is enabled and all is well.

What I have found to be my limitation is the inability to
control the XP home machine (to a point). To say..
I can reach all the shares I have networked but I want to
be able to access the desktop as I do the Pro machine or
the ability to make major changes to the browser. I guess
to really administer it from 5 miles away. I know there is
no remote on Home but is there a way to do this?
I hope I am not babbling here.
Stay cool its too hot down here
Thank you,
Joe

It works better to give you PROBLEM or GOAL at the top,
and then the detail.

Then those who might help can determine if the problem
falls in their expertise before reading a long message.

I, at least, got lost in the detail without finding your problem.

If there is someone at the remote machine to help you, you can
use the remote assistance capabilities of XP Home.

If there is no-one there to manually accept the offer of remote
assistance, you *might* be able to write a script that will do
the appropriate keystrokes to let you in. You can use the remote
capabilities of at.exe to kick off the script or a third party
utility like pstools from http://www.sysinternals.com/

Joe,

One way to do this is install FREE VNC software so that you can access the
XP Home Desktop.

What problem you are trying to solve...

It seems you are a fellow Heinlein fan, so you might

I just want to control the "downstream" PC of the XP Pro
machine. I think I am going to go over there today and
install XP Pro and remote in from this angle:

My server to the main XP machine with 2NIC and then remote
from that machine into the old Home machine which will now
have an internal IP. This I think is the most feasable.
Thank you for your help Mr. Martin
