Different NIS servers for passwd and autofs maps

Hi,
our workplace consists of servers in different cities. We prefer to
have our filesystems to be local, however NIS is at a central server.

For some performance reasons (distcc), each of our user machines
exports a particular partition. Now to maintain the autofs maps for ALL
the user machines, I have to have a "auto.user" file with all the maps.

But whenever a new machine needs to be added, I need to update this
"auto.user" file on ALL the user desktops. This is turning out to be
highly cumbersome as we grow.

Is it possible to have 2 NIS servers - one to lookup the passwd (from
the remote site) and one to lookup the autofs maps (local server) ?

A big thanks in advance
