We have a problem on a DC in SiteA that is having RPC errors to DC in SiteB.
One of the noticeable symptoms seen is if you go to "run" and type in
\\ip_address it makes it to SiteB DC just fine but if you try \\Host_name it
says path not found even though the hostname resolves correctly. What is the
difference between the two methods other then one needing to resolve the IP
which it does.

Hope that isn't confusing.

First try nslookup and see if the hostname resolves using your local
dns server. If it doesnt dns is your problem.

Other things to look at:

\\Host_name uses netbios name resoltion. Try using the fqdn
(\\hostname.domainname.xxx).

You could try adding the Host name and IP address to the LMHOSTS file
to resolve the hostname..

The fact it resolved fine via netbios name and fqdn tells me its nothing to
do with resolution issues.

What is the difference packet wise between the two methods?
