Differences between Ver. 1.0 and Ver 1.1 of Linksys WRT54G?

I just picked up a Linksys WRT54G (version 1.0) and am pretty happy
with it so far. Based on my experience with it, a friend also bought
one. I was trying to talk her through the configuration and
discovered a huge difference in the menu structure. Then I found out
although she also has the same model number, hers is a version 1.1. I
know in general later revisions have enhanced features, but I also
know sometimes this is not the case. I still have a few days to
decide whether to keep the WRT54G or to exchange it for the newer
revision. Of course, the Linksys web site doesn't make any mention
whatsoever about what the differences are, so I'm turning to this
newsgroup for assistance. Can anyone tell me what differences exist
between the two versions?

Thanks,

- Steve

If you go to Linksys/support and check out each version for downloads you
can see what the 'new' firmware levels offer.

Check there.

The OP was probably referring to the two hardware versions of WRT54G
that Linksys put out. I'm curious about the differences between the two.

BTW each one has its own firmware versions.

Yes, I was referring to two different pieces of hardware:
WRT54G HW Ver. 1.0 - firmware 1.30.7
WRT54G HW Ver. 1.1 - firmware 1.41.2

It appears that Linksys has quietly slipstreamed a hardware update for
this WAP. The release notes for the 1.41.2 firmware just say that the
GUI was updated. If that's the case, then the newer firmware should
work on the older model. That leads to an interesting question: if
it's just a GUI change, then why isn't there a corresponding update
for the older model?

In an effort to get WPA working over 802.11b, I did try installing 1.41.2 on
the v1.0 and it works (the firmware; not WPA... trying to use WPA over
802.11b still locks up the router completely). There is one issue with the
updated config pages and IE in that chaning the router's name without
tab-ing out of the field before saving leads to an error message.

From what I've been seeing Linksys/cisco has been updating all it's routers
and ap's to use 12 volts instead of 5. I had a wap11 v2.6 which was 5 volts
and then i got a wap v2.8 that was 12volts but the 2.8 also had a new
chipset and 100BT ethernet. Now I have a wap54(for wpa) 1.0 and 1.1 and the
diffences are V1.0 uses 5 volts@ 2 amps and V1.1 uses 12 volts @ 1 amp.
Everything else seems the same between them including the chipset. As far
as the WRT54G goes, I set a few up for some clients and noticed that V1.0
was 5 volts and V1.1 is 12 volts (both have 100BT)

the front panel lights are completely different on these two routers.
there's probably some firmware changes as a result.

Somebody said the 1.1 models use a 12v power supply instead of 5v.

1. They no longer use a mini PCCard in the new model, it's all on the
board now.

2. 12V vs 5V power supply.

3. One row on lights vs the 3 on the original.
