What is the difference between wireless ehternet bridge and wireless
ethernet adapter in term of bridge function? Can a wireless ethernet adapter
connect to a hub or switch?

as far as i know a wireless adapter can only connect to a computer. you can
get USB adapters, PCMCIA adapters (for laptops) and PCI adapters. To
connect to a switch, you need an Access point

what's your real situation, application, or question ?
a wireless Ethernet bridge is when TWO devices are talking via RF,
and yet each connects to it's own device or LAN via a RJ45 -
ie - connect 2 buildings and their hubs
or connect a standalone laser printer with an internal NIC
in the middle of a room -
to the local LAN via a wireless bridge connected to a hub -
Not sure on the product symantics of a "bridge" vs "adapter"
Which products are you confused about ?

I have a wired network on the second floor and a cable modem with a wireless router on the ground floor. I want to link them together use a same brand device (a bridge) in order to guarantee the compatibility with my SMC router/AP. However, the SMC bridge will cost about $250, which is about 3 times of similar products (D-link DWL800+ is $70 on Buy.com). Since an external wireless ethernet adapter connects to the NIC of a computer, I am curious if it can be connected to a hub to make it as a bridge. An SMC external wireless ethernet adapter costs about $60.

I also wonder if APs and bridges made by different manufactures would work together.

I wonder what the difference is then between the "bridge" and the
"adapter" -
http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?action=...t&productCode=
SMC2682W

one thought - how does the "adapter" handle MAC addresses -
does it only recognize a single MAC - it assumes a single device -
and therefore would not know how to operate
when connected to the 2nd floor on a multiple device hub -

Now I know the difference, thanks. Also thanks for finding the right product
for me.
