I was wondering if my wireless cable internet speeds
would change if I updated my network from b to g? I know
file transfers will but don't know about the internet. I
tried searching google but came up with nothing.

b tops at about 4-5Mbps in practice (11Mbps theoretical).
Unless your ISP gives you more than 5 Mbps, it won't make
a change (cable typically tops at 1-3Mbps).

You can try to measure the speed of downloads. If they
are below 5Mbps, changing to g won't make things go
faster.
