Hi,

helping a friend with a Tesco Broadband installation.

Things did not go well; the Broadband USB modem would not install on the PC.

Tried on two different PCs under WIn2K - the symptoms were that the device
kept appearing and disappearing in Device Manager (almost as though it was
demanding too much power from the USB port).

Tesco support - "must be a problem with your computer".
My diagnosis "Duff Modem".

Regardless, my recommendation was to get a modem/router and replace the
modem.

One Belkin wireless router later (Argos), and everything was working fine.

There is, however, one remaining problem.

One of the phone handsets (a new 'digital' phone) seems to take the
Broadband down.

Swapping around between microfilters (two came with the USB modem, another
with the router) doesn't seem to help.

Traditional phones seem O.K.

I am diagnosing remotely, so I am waiting for more details on make and model
of the phone.

However, I though that in the meantime I would ask if there are any known
issues with phones taking out Broadband despite using microfilters.

I am assuming that the microfilters are O.K. because there are three
different ones to try.

TIA
Dave R

Assume they are all of one make though?. I had trouble with a BT Dect
phone picking up noise from the line when we went bb and I had to buy
another make of filter with 4 filter toroids in it to get rid of the noise.
So maybe try another make of filter.

HTH

Dave

yes

try two in series, that solves most of these.

ADSLnations's XF-1e has a money back guarantee.

sometimes filters interact with each other, so try it with just the
"digital phone" (?) plugged in via its filter to see.

Is this digital cordless? If so, it may be the base station and ADSL
modem are too close together.
