I have a new server 2008 server installed and I am having some issues with
dialup access.
We want a dialup modem as a backdoor into the server, plus some software we
want to use dials into another server to download some information.
This machine is a Server 2008 64bit that is a Domain Controller, DNS server,
Terminal Server, IIS (FTP Only), File Server, DHCP.
Also, I have VMware Server 2 install on this machine.
Now, when I first installed this machine, the dialup was working just fine.
I could dial in and connect up without a problem. We had Symantec Endpoint
Protection that was causing us grief (basically blocking all network
connections randomly), so I uninstalled symantec and installed AVG free.
Since removing Symantec and Installing AVG, the dialup has stopped working.
I’ve now uninstalled AVG, but to no avail.
The problem is that I can't create a new dial up connection. When I attempt
to create a new connection all I get is a message saying Windows could not
detect a dialup modem. Now when I look in device manager, the dialup modem is
there with the drivers installed looking fine and dandy. I can successfully
query the modem too.
The only thing I can think of is that AVG somehow broke whatever windows
uses to connect to the dialup modem. But so far I found nothing.
The second problem is the server is 3000km away which is a bit of a drive to
fix any hardware
I am very grateful to anyone who can offer suggestions.
Thank you.
