Everytime I try to go into dial properties I get this msg:
"An error occurred while Windows was working with the
Control Panel file C:\Windows\System\modem.cpl."
I can't seem to find any information on what this is and
how to fix it? In the meantime, I get a connection to the
server, but constantly get that annoying "Cannot find
Server"-"Page cannot be displayed" it's not busy, it has
something to do with that error msg...also, I can not
click on Telephony at all, I can't left or right click it
and I can't get into the properties. Some genius at SBC
Global told me to download a CD-Rom 2X and it corupted my
files, now SBC is telling me there's nothing they can do
about it. Any help out there?? Please? I have a 15yr old
who isn't speaking to me because we can't get on
line...HELP!!!

The .cpl files are those that are being use for Windows to
Display the Control Panel and adjust computer settings
such as the Dial-Up Networking ones.

Please follow this procedure:

1. Update your anti-virus program, you may need to run it
in "safe mode" just to ensure that your computer is not
infected. If you need assistant about the safe mode,
restart your computer and press F8 before the Windows logo
appears.

2. If no virus were detected you can safely go to the
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Windows Setup browse
under Accesories or Communications and disable any options
that may be enable such as Direct Cable Connection, Dial-
up Networking or Hyper Terminal. WARNING: doing this you
may need to reconfigure your Dial-up settings, so backup
all (username, password and ISP data)

3. Restart your computer. Now you will not see any
available dial-up connections. Now, repeat step #2 but
this time enabling everything you disabled before.

4. Restart the computer. And try again configuring your
dial-up settings.
