dialup networking

I'm very new to networking but what are some ways to connect two 98 machine
so they can share files and Internet. Both machines have a network card and
bought a cable to connect the two. I really need some help

Maybe there is something I need and don't have. What are a few ways I ca
share a dialup network? What would be the easiest?
