Dialup connection - Netscape.net and Linux?

Has anyone been successfull getting a dialup connection to Netscape.net
as an internet service for a Linux (FC3) box? I've done a lot of
Googling, and haven't found any incication of people using their service
with Linux. Of course, when you sign up, they give you a custom Windows
dialer, so there must be some magic to get the connection. I've used
both "eznet" and "wvdial", and both successfully connect to the system
on the other end, but neither one can get through the authentication
secret handshake (CHAP?). Interestingly enough, I was able to use
"eznet" to get through to my Roadrunner dialup (for when I'm away from
the cable service), though I had to add a second response to get it to
authenticate, so I know my PCMCIA modem is fine, and the ppp connection
can be established. However, I'm trying to set this up for a friend,
and he isn't going to be able to use my Roadrunner account.

As an alternative, what dialup services have people had good success
with when running Linux? I'm working with an old laptop running FC3.
Everything else works fine, but I need to set up an Internet account for
him.

To have any hope of getting a good answer add the line

daemon.*;local2.* /var/log/ppp.log

to /etc/syslog.conf, do "killall -HUP syslogd" to get syslogd to reread
that file, and temporary add the pppd option debug to /etc/ppp/options.
Then try to make a connection and post the resulting log file.

Ah!! That will be a huge help! I was wondering how to get any
decent logs, since it doesn't really put much useful info in the
"messages" file. Thanks -- I'll try that.
