Dialup and Wireless router

I have a D-Link DI-713P router at home. I recently tried to connect
to the Internet using the serial port and a Courier V.Everything
modem. I could get the modem to dial and connect, but it did not seem
to connect. The log for the router showed it connecting, but no
websites would pull up. I even tried accessing sites via an IP, so
DNS was not the issue. Does anyone know if this is just a problem
with the router and the V.Everything? I don't need the dialup portion
of the router as I have DSL at my home, but I am looking into getting
my mother a notebook for Christmas. I would like to get a router that
would allow her to access the Internet from any place in the house, my
parents only have access to dialup Internet. Is the DI-731P a bad
choice for a router? Would the SMC SMC7004AWBR be a better choice?
Those are the only two routers that I know of that have an external
serial port for connecting an external modem. I will probably use the
Courier V.Everything as the modem. Are there any known issues with
this modem and either of the routers?

Thanks

Have you looked at the USR8000A?
