Does anyone know how I can get dialup access to my email account when I only
have btbroadband, do I need to have a dialup ISP or is there a back door to
my email account.

From any internet connected computer in the world point its browser to
www.mail2web.com and click Advanced Login. Fill up the 3 boxes as required
(Server name: mail.btinternet.com or mail.btclick.com, User ID: your full
email address, Password: your password). You can then do with your email as
you please.

Remember not to tick any boxes that say *remember my password* if you are
checking your mail from any pc other than your own.

The problem is not the retrieving the email once connected, it is getting
the connection in the first place.

When using the direct dial to BT from abroad it rejects my username and
password. Is this usual or not.

Wherever abroad with your PC just find a free local ISP (with most you can
sign-up from UK before you leave) or get an access credentials from a
friend. A lot cheaper than international call rates.

Does it reject it when dialled from within the UK ?

There's something about needing the CLI, which might be well nigh
impossible when calling from abroad: BT seems to strip off most
incoming callers' numbers when non-UK.
