In preparing to switch from Dial up to DSL, I installed a USB200M 10/100 NIC
on a laptop. I could not get it to work after 2 hours on the phone with
Verizon. So I removed it but they could not connect up to ISP via dial up.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled modem and reinstalled Win 98 SE. Still
cannot get thru. The modem communicates, the connection is made to the ISP
but then drops right away. Does any one have any ideas of how to fix?

If the line is DSL enabled, then you will need a filter between your
modem and the wall socket.

You can get a better idea of what is happening by enabling a modemlog
and PPPlog.
