Hi all,
I bought a new DI-524 wireless router and DWL-G630 NIC for my laptop
running Win XP Pro to access a cable modem connection (which will be
installed next week). When I first set it up with no security it
works
just fine (54 Mbps and I can connect to the router and its
configuration
utility). This also works fine with WEP enabled. But I purchased
this
combination so that I could secure the connection with WPA-PSK. When
I
turn it on I cannot access the router's configuration utility, but I
can
connect to the network (meaning WinXP tells me that I am connected).
Although it sometimes drops the connection when I try to access the
router's web based configuration utility.

In these forums I have read about the need to broadcast the SSID so it
is on. ALso I read something about setting a regitry key I tried it
but
it didn't seem to make a difference.
----------------------------
"The way the client authentication behaves with PEAP-TLS is
controlled
by the following registry key: -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\EAPOL\Parame ters\General\Global

You add a DWORD to this location called AuthMode. The valid
range is
from 0-2. 0 sets 802.1x EAP authentication to use machine
credentials
(certificate in TLS) or user credentials (certificate) whichever
comes
first.

1 means use machine credentials but if the user hasn't logged on
drop
the connection after 60 seconds.

2 means use machine credentials only.

I have set the DWORD to 2 and it works! I am able to login into
the
domain and the connection stays up with no problems after that."
-----------------------------

Also should I be using PEAP authentication or Smart card
Authenticaiton in the Microsofts zero config utility under
advanced
options or something like that? Also should
Authenticate as computer
or guest boxes be checked. Or does none of this matter. By the way
the
use 802.11x Authentication is checked and I cannot change this. Is
any
of this necessary?

Any help would be appreciated.
