For IP telephony implementations (Siemens), we had to define code 43 (vendor
option) in DHCP. (VoIP devices isolated from the data nework)

The code that we use is (Binary)
01 0A 53 69 65 6D 65 6E 73 00 00 00 02 04 00 00 00 D2 00 00 00 00 00 FF

It works properly for the IP phones (release IP Phone + move to another
subnet).

What we see now, is that the XP clients (IBM), who should ignore this code,
are forcing a "release IP adress" at logoff.

The lease duration is set at 60 days.
We are working around the problem by entering a reservation, but we want to
keep our lease duration of 60 days.

anyone has ideas ?

Thanks

Contact Siemens. I'm sure they've seen this problem before. In the
meanwhile I'll ask my VOIP engineers if they've heard of this problem before
and get back to you.

Thanks for the replay Todd.

We have contacted them first. They are also looking for a solution, but
their answer was "Strange, IBM XP workstatins should ignore this code".

I did some additional testing. When I remove the second part of the string,
then the IP adress is not released at logoff. When I use the first part from
an other vendor (eg. cisco) and the second part of Siemens, then again the IP
adress is released at logoff. The problem is caused by the second part, but
I do not have an idea why the workatations are interpreting this code.
