Does anyone know if DHCP superscopes under Windows Server 2008 will
function correctly in an environment consisting of multiple VLANs?

Thanks.

You don't use SuperScopes with VLANS,...on any version of WIndows Server.

SuperScopes are something from back in the 1980's with Cavemen before VLANs
were invented.

VLANs usage has pretty much repaced the need for SuperScopes,...and even
back then, before VLANs, the real *true* need for Superscopes by people who
knew when and when not to use them was very very very rare.

Almost everytime I run across someone trying to use SuperScopes they are
trying to do it for the wrong reasons,...and shouldn't be trying to use them
at all.

They should, and Windows (all versions) supports them, but I don't know of
anyone that uses them. Usually use DHCP Relay agents, or IP helpers on the
router or layer 3 switches.

Hello,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that:

You want to know whether you can lease IP addresses in DHCP superscope for
clients in different VLANs.

If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

no, natively the Windows DHCP service doesn't support the superscope for
clients in different VLANs. The DHCP service can only serve those clients
in the local VLAN and subnet.

However, you may count on the DHCP relay agent (the router that is
compliant with RFC 1542). For more information, you may refer to:

Hope it helps. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Miles Li
