hi everybody,

I read on the Internet that Microsoft Windows 2003 DHCP is compliant with
the RFC that describes the "Subnet Selection Option", that should allow the
release of IP Addresses based on a request made by the dhcp client through
the subnet selection option (I'd like to use it to have the DHCP release IP
addresses from different pools, based on the client request). Do you know if
it is really supported in 2003 ? for I'm not finding it in the dhcp option
lists, and I can't make it work in my lab (while another free dhcp server
(Turbo dhcp) works.

thanx

andrea

All you do is create a separate Scope for each subnet. Then enable DHCP
Forwarding on the LAN Router that is between the subnets and set it to
forward request from these other subnets to the DHCP Server.
All done.

Thank you Phillip,

I'd better clarify my scenario (and the need for the subnet selection
option):
- remote GPRS clients authenticate on my network throuhg a Radius server
(IAS) that will give them ip addresses taken from a Windows 2003 DHCP server
- both the Radius server and the DHCP server are on the same subnet
- three scopes will be defined on the DHCP server, with different network
permissions (first scope: admin - full access, second scope: users, third
scope: guests)
in this case, the dhcp client is the Radius server, that is on the same
subnet of the dhcp server: how can I tell the dhcp server which scope to
take the the ip addres from ? I've read that in a similar scenario I could
pass the subnet selection option to the dhcp server, but I'm not sure the MS
2003 DHCP server understands it

thanx again

andrea

Someone else will have to step in there. I don't know what you would do for
that.
