Hi,
I have an interesting issue with a DHCP server running on Windows
Server 2008.
The server was configured with several server options including 006
(DNS server) where the IP-addresses of three DNS servers were entered.
A few hours later clients received leases with only one DNS server
handed out to them. When we checked the console the second and third
DNS servers were gone from option 006.
The service had not been restarted, it had been running for approx. 21
hours at this time.
We re-entered all DNS servers into the server options and an ipconfig /
renew resulted in a new lease with all DNS servers.
I have reason to believe that nobody messed with the options over
night, so my question is why the additional DNS servers disappeared.
There is a KB article that mentions similar issue with the 003 option,
but only when configured as a scope option. In our case 006 is a
server option.
The DHCP server was migrated from a Windows Server 2003 machine using
netsh export/import.
