DHCP scope change

We have only one scope on our DHCP service on a Windows 2003 Standard R2.

We started the scope with 5 addresses, then I modified it to only have one
address.

I am trying to use the other addresses in a new DHCP scope, but when I try
setting
up the new scope it tells me that these addresses are already used. I have
checked
many times and the scope is set to only use one address.

How can I release the previously assigned addresses so that I can re-use them?

Thanks,

Just Delete your old scope. Create a new scope you can then allocate a pool
of addresses within the scope.

Your scopes are really supposed to use the entire range of a single subnet.
Then exlusions are used to rule out IP#s that aren't supposed to be given
out. I can't think of any reason that a second scope in the same subnet,
even if it uses a different "chunk" of addresses, is going to be any kind of
a benefit. It most likey will become a problem instead.
