I purchased Voip phones and they have worked fine for two months. But for the
last three day once a day they keep rebooting for up to half an hour at first
I thought it might be the something wrong with the phones or something wrong
with the switches. Then I looked at DCHP in my windows 2003 server and I
noticed that most of the IPs of the computers were also renewing in dhcp at
the same time. They keep renewing every six minutes for about a half hour or
so then the network is fine. The phones and computers are differnet switches.
What could cause a the DHCP to start renew ips every six minutes for a half
hour then quit?

Hello,

Thank you for your post.

To get a better understanding of this issue, I'd like to ask you several
questions before going further.

1. I think the VoIP phone devices are connected to the switches and obtain
IP addresses from the DHCP server directly. Is this correct?

2. If yes, how do you verify it is DHCP Client computers but not VoIP phone
devices that are renewing their IP addresses? Could you please also tell me
how do you verify that the renewal interval is six minutes?

3. If you disconnect all VoIP phone devices from the network, will other
DHCP Client computers continue renew their IP addresses every six minutes?

4. How do you configure the lease duration on DHCP scopes? If the lease
duration is set to 12 minutes, then DHCP Client will renew their IP
addresses every six minutes (Half time of the duration.).

5. Are all DHCP clients located in the same LAN or is there any DHCP relay
configured? Please also describe the network topology for me.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. : )
