I notice now in my home network router logs the following:

DHCP request success xx.xxx.xx.xxx (an IP address)
at 4 AM when my computer was on but the modem was turned off.

What is the significance of the unfamiliar IP address?

Thanks, CMA

Not enough info. Masked IPs are no help at all.

If the computer and router are on, they will still talk to each other even
if the modem is off. If the IP address matches the IP address of your
computer you need not worry. If it does not, then you should look into who
else is connecting to your network, especially if it's wireless.
