Reduce the lease period at least one (old) lease period
before performing such changes.

Reboot the hosts effected by the VLAN change.
Don't worry about ones not effected by the change.
That is about as automatic as it gets.

I have also used Herb's method in the past too.

I would also suggest just running "ipconfig /renew" rather
than doing a reboot.

As to my original suggestion, I doubt if he planned ahead
(most people don't) but that is the question he asked <grin>

The demand is to do the VLAN change dynamically based on Policy Rules
enforced by an Enterasys Policy Manager.

The client computer authenticates via 802.1X using a computer certificate to
a Radius Server (win2003 ias). After the client is successfully
authenticated the IAS Server sends some Radius attributes to an Enterasys
Policy Manager. The Policy Manager automatically changes the VLAN of the
specific client on the switch.
My problem is, that the client doesn't recognize the VLAN change and
therefore it doesn't renew its IP address....

Thanks,
MC

Yea, I usually try that first myself,...but I get one that "hangs" every
once in a while,...I'm not known for "patients" sometimes, so then I reboot
the thing :-)
