Hi. on a windows 2000 or 2003 DHCP server you have the option to set a DNS
search order (up to 6 entries) to be given out to clients as they make their
DHCP requests. i have configured this in one of my scopes but it does not
display on the client after doing an ipconfig /release and renew. is this
something that windows doesnt take from a DHCP server by default? any help
would be appreciated as we really need to take advantage of this

Hi Jmmy

"on a windows 2000 or 2003 DHCP server you have the option to set a DNS
search order (up to 6 entries) to be given out to clients as they make their
DHCP requests" ... I am not sure to understand what you're refering to. If
it is about using multiple domain names via DHCP option 15, whatever
specified there (except the first domain) is not used by Microsoft DHCP
clients. If you are using a Windows 2003 AD environment, additional suffixes
can be passed to client computers via group policy. So you will need to
perform a "gpupdate /force" on a client to see changes being applied.

Hope this helps.

Xavier

yes. my question is then why would microsoft not make the windows dhcp
client able to accept ALL possible options offered by a dhcp server?
especially when the microsoft dhcp server CAN offer all these options?? it
doesnt make any sense
