DHCP not updating DNS when renewing records

The scenario is this, I have a domain controller running Win2K3 which
provides DNS and DHCP services to my small network. Clients are getting their
DHCP addresses assigned correctly within scope and the DNS entry is getting
registered.

The problem is that when DHCP renews the lease it does not update the DNS
server. Then when the scavenge happens on the DNS server it delete's the
host record because it thinks it is stale.

Also if I try "ipconfig /registerdns" it still does not update the record.

If I delete the DHCP record when the client gets the new DHCP address it
does register in DNS.

This seems to have started happing after installing SP2 on the Windows DC.

Any ideas.

Thanks
Modo

Hi Modo
Make sure DHCP server is Authorized. Just to make sure, right-click
your DHCP server in mmc snap-in then click authorize.
Again right-click DHCP server>Properties. Click DNS tab. Make sure
Dynamic updates box is checked at the top, and the second choice "Always .. A
records and PTR.." is set
In DNS side, right-click your forward lookup zone>Properties. Make sure
Dynamic updates is not set to none
After making changes, restart the services

Regards
