I run two DHCP servers at my site, both hosted on Windows 2000 domain
controllers. I used "Set Predefined Options" to add option 252 to both
to provide the WPAD autoproxy script url for my site. One server is
including that option in it's DHCP ACK packets, one is not.
The DHCP services are essentially identical in configuration. The only
difference is that they have different ranges within the subnets in
their scopes to provide a failover. As a consequence, my clients split
between the two and only half are getting the automatic configuration
info for Internet Explorer.
The two servers are both domain controllers for a domain that extends
beyond this site, neither hold FMSO roles, and the one that failing is
also a global catalog.
I cannot find any references to this problem through Google and need to
fix DHCP if possible. I cannot use DNS for WPAD because my domain
includes other sites that use a different proxy server.
