DHCP not giving out IP addresses

Hello everyone,

I am not sure if this is related to my DNS problem in my earlier post,
but my DHCP server will not give out IP address leases to clients.

I just tried to connect an XP client to the server. When I run ipconfig
/all I have an IP address of 0.0.0.0. It also says that my DHCP server
is 255.255.255.255, but when I try and ping this, I get "destination
host unreachable". Ipconfig /renew times out everytime.

DHCP service is running, no DHCP errors/warnings in the event
logs/server is authorized, Used to be able to ping the server from the
client (although still can't join the domain) Now can't ping anything.

Checked cables/router/NICS/Lamer stuff and it all works.

I'm running Windows 2003 SP1. Installed Active Directory (along with
required DNS and DHCP) after SP1 was applied. Can anyone make any sense
of this?

Thanks

make sure you have a good connection. try to assign static ip. can you ping
the DHCP now? For more and other information, go to

I took notice that you said you were trying to ping the DHCP server at
255.255.255.255? This is an IP broadcast address and not something that you
can really ping.

I would make sure your DHCP server authorized in Active Directory and that
the scope is activated. This can be done in the DHCP MMC Snap-in. Use the
context menu on the server to authorize it and the context menu on the scope
to activate it. Some other little things that you may want to check is that
your subnet mask given out by DHCP matches the mask on your server. This
usually wouldn't prevent an address from being given, but could cause
communication problems on your network. Also make sure you're handing out
the DNS address (same as the server).

Let us know what you find.
