Hello All

I have windows server 2000 machine acting as DHCP and DNS server , I have to
migrate to a new machine that will be run on windows 2003 server standard
edition

I searched though Microsoft support site and I found a great article that
explain how to do so
the article URL is : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325473

the article discuss the usage of a tool called "DHCPEXIM" and command
called "Jetpack", I downloaded it and start apply the steps in the article
but I got some errors messages that I can not understand

When I started DHCPEXIM I got the error: "Error initialization and reading
the service configuration the system can not find the path specified"
I tried to restart the service and restart the server

Please Please help me , this is very important to me because the DHCP has
more than 150 scoup and it will be so hard the do so it manually

Thanks alot
Amr

Hi Amr --

You might want to check the database path in DHCP to verify that the DHCP
database is stored in the default location. (The default database path is
documented in the DHCP Help.)

Also make sure you are logged on as a Domain Admin or Enterprise Admin
before running the dhcpexim.exe tool.

Dear James McIllece

thanks for your replay ,
I'm sure that the DHCP database is in the default path and also I have the
Admin Login to that server

I'll be grateful to hear your comments

Amr

Hello All,
I'm still waiting for your ideas

Now I have a new idea , but I'm not sure that will pass succefully
I thought to divide the migration process into 2 phases
step one:
move to a new Hardware Machine with Windows server 2000 that I already have
then move the DHCP database to this new server
step two:
upgrade from widows server 2000 to 2003 standard
my question is can I upgrade from server 2000 to server 2003 using the
standard windows server 2003 Media , I mean it is not upgrade version of
windows server 2003

thanks a lot , waiting for your replay
Yours
Amr
