I have been having hang ups with my 3com router/modem since I installed it a
few weeks ago. Both computers linked to it (wired) have at some time needed
to be rebooted to get back internet/email access. Someone at work mentioned
about timeouts in the router so I found a DHCP lease time which was set to
1/2 a day. Would this explain why I have to re boot occasionally?
I have set it to 2 days and will see if things improve (the router is
switched off at night)

no.

If you are losing connectivity to the router, suspect
a) power-save features on the client PCs or NICs
b) defective PSU on your router.

I had a 3com router that worked fine but periodically my clients lost
connectivity. After much tearing of hair I reported it to 3com who
said it was due to a known power supply problem which overloaded some
electronic component, so they sent me a new PSU.
